Battery Saving on HONOR phones ​

HONOR devices (MagicOS / Magic UI, formerly EMUI) are among the most aggressive at closing background apps. If your recording stops or your track is cut short when the screen is off, your phone is freezing SportsTrackLive in the background — see Battery Saving for why this happens.

To record reliably, change the settings below. The app launch settings in step 1 are the key ones; HONOR also recommends exempting the app from battery optimisation (step 2). The remaining steps make recording even more reliable.

The menu names can vary slightly between models and MagicOS versions, but the wording below is close to what you will see.

1. Take manual control of the app's launch settings ​

This is the single most important setting on HONOR phones. There are two ways to reach it — use whichever matches your phone.

Option A — from the app's battery details:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Go to Apps → Apps → SportsTrackLive (or open Battery, then tap the app).
  3. Tap Battery usage details.
  4. Tap App launch settings.

Option B — from the Phone Manager (HONOR's official route):

  1. Open the Phone Manager app (also called Optimiser).
  2. Tap App launch.
  3. Find SportsTrackLive in the list.

Then, on either route:

  1. Turn off the Manage automatically switch — this unlocks the manual options below.
  2. Turn all three on:
    • Auto-launch
    • Secondary launch
    • Run in background
  3. Tap OK / Continue to confirm.

TIP

Run in background is the most important of the three — it is what stops MagicOS from freezing the app once the screen is off.

You can reach the battery-details route directly from inside the app: when SportsTrackLive shows the "Disable Power Saving" prompt, tap View App Settings to jump straight to the app's battery details, then open App launch settings.

What it should look like

On the App launch settings dialog, Manage automatically is off and Auto-launch, Secondary launch and Run in background are all on (blue). That is the correct configuration.

2. Allow the app to ignore battery optimisation ​

On top of the launch settings, HONOR keeps a separate battery optimisation list. Tell the system not to optimise SportsTrackLive:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Search for or open Battery optimisation.
  3. Tap the down arrow at the top and select All apps so the full list is shown.
  4. Find and tap SportsTrackLive.
  5. Choose Don't allow — this stops the system from optimising (throttling) the app.

TIP

Don't allow here means "don't allow battery optimisation for this app" — i.e. let it run freely. It does not disable anything you need.

3. Lock the app in Recents (keep it open) ​

Some HONOR models clear background apps when you swipe them away or when memory gets tight. Locking the app in the Recents view tells the system to keep it alive:

  1. Open the Recents screen (the multitasking view with all open apps).
  2. Find the SportsTrackLive card.
  3. Swipe down on the card (or long-press it) until a padlock icon appears.
  4. Tap the padlock so it shows locked — the app is now protected from being cleared.

These are not always required, but they make recording even more reliable on HONOR phones:

  • Keep the screen on the cockpit, then turn the screen off — do not swipe the app away. Closing the app stops recording; turning the screen off does not.
  • In Settings → Battery, make sure any global Power saving mode / Ultra power saving mode is off while you record.
  • Grant "Allow all the time" location permission to SportsTrackLive (Settings → Apps → SportsTrackLive → Permissions → Location).
  • Keep notifications enabled for the app — the recording service relies on its persistent notification.

Check that it worked ​

After changing these settings:

  1. Start a recording.
  2. Turn the screen off and leave the phone for several minutes (a short walk is ideal).
  3. Come back, turn the screen on, and confirm the recording is still running and the distance and time kept increasing while the screen was off.

If the track is complete, your phone is configured correctly.
