Battery Saving
To record a complete track, SportsTrackLive runs a persistent foreground service with a non-dismissible notification and a wake lock, and it asks Android to exempt the app from battery optimisation. On most phones that is enough to record reliably with the screen off and the app in the background.
Some manufacturers, however, ship their own, more aggressive power manager on top of Android. These OEM layers can ignore the standard battery-optimisation exemption and pause or kill the app a few minutes after the screen turns off — even while you are recording. When that happens, the track stops being written and you only get the part recorded before the app was frozen.
Why this matters
If your phone freezes the app in the background, your recording can be cut short or your live broadcast interrupted, and the full track is not saved. The fix is to tell your phone to leave SportsTrackLive running with no restrictions.
Per-phone guides
The exact menus depend on your phone brand and Android version. Pick your brand for step-by-step instructions:
- Samsung phones (One UI) — covers One UI 3, 4, 5, 6 and later.
- Google Pixel phones — stock Android battery optimisation.
- Xiaomi phones (MIUI / HyperOS) — Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO.
- HONOR phones — MagicOS / Magic UI.
- Huawei phones (EMUI / HarmonyOS) — Huawei devices.
More brand-specific guides will follow. If your brand isn't listed yet, the general steps below apply to most phones.
General steps (most phones)
If your phone isn't covered by a dedicated guide above, these settings fix the problem on the majority of devices:
- Allow the app to run in the background / disable battery optimisation. Open Settings → Apps → SportsTrackLive → Battery and set it to Unrestricted / No restrictions (the exact wording varies by brand).
- Turn off any global power-saving mode while you record (Settings → Battery).
- Grant "Allow all the time" location permission (Settings → Apps → SportsTrackLive → Permissions → Location).
- Keep notifications enabled for the app — the recording service relies on its persistent notification.
- Turn the screen off, don't swipe the app away. Closing the app stops recording; turning the screen off does not.
You can also reach your battery settings directly from inside the app: when SportsTrackLive shows the "Disable Power Saving" prompt, tap View App Settings to jump straight there, then choose No restrictions.
Check that it worked
After changing these settings:
- Start a recording.
- Turn the screen off and leave the phone for several minutes (a short walk is ideal).
- Come back, turn the screen on, and confirm the recording is still running and the distance and time kept increasing while the screen was off.
If the track is complete, your phone is configured correctly.
