Contest tasks & turnpoints

A contest task defines the course of a competition: the points athletes must reach, in order, and the gates that time the race. SportsTrackLive renders these directly on the 3D globe.

Anatomy of a task

A task is made up of ordered points, each shown as a labelled 3D marker with a radius (the "gate" athletes must pass through):

  • Takeoff — the start location.
  • Start / SSS — where official timing begins.
  • Turnpoints — intermediate goals that must be reached in sequence.
  • Goal / ESS — the finish line or area.

A connecting line shows the required route between points.

Watching progress

In contest mode, the player highlights the task and each athlete's progress relative to it. Markers change appearance to show which turnpoints an athlete has already passed versus those still ahead. When you load a task, the camera automatically frames the whole course.

Scoring

Free-flight tracks are scored automatically against standard contest types — open distance, free distance, flat triangle, FAI triangle and XContest — and ranked on the leaderboard.

Building a task

Tasks can be created and edited visually: place waypoints by tapping the terrain, drag to adjust them, and remove the ones you don't want. This is also how community challenges define their waypoints.

TIP

A contest task is the competition counterpart of a challenge — the same waypoint concept, applied to an organised event.
