WhatsApp alerts
Keep the people who matter in the loop — automatically. When you start a live activity, SportsTrackLive sends a WhatsApp message to the contacts you choose, so your family, friends or coach always know you're out and can follow you in real time. They don't need the app, an account or any setup of their own: they just receive a message on WhatsApp and can reply to it.
This is one of the most-loved safety features in SportsTrackLive — your loved ones are notified the moment you head out and the moment you're back.
Premium feature
WhatsApp alerts are part of Premium and require a verified phone number. You can add up to 5 recipients.
What you can do with it
- Auto-notify on start. As soon as you begin recording an activity (manually, or via auto start, or from a partner device), every enabled recipient gets a WhatsApp message announcing you've gone live.
- Auto-notify on finish. When the activity ends, recipients receive a final "activity finished" message.
- Optional periodic updates. Choose to send an automatic update every 30 minutes or every hour while you're still out, with your latest position — or keep it to just start and finish.
- Recipients can interact with the bot. Anyone you notify can reply to the WhatsApp message to get more, without leaving WhatsApp (see below).
- Per-recipient control. Enable or disable each contact individually — pause a recipient for a season without deleting them.
- Service health at a glance. A coloured status indicator tells you whether the WhatsApp delivery service is currently operational.
What your recipients receive — and can ask for
When you go live, recipients get a message from the official SportsTrackLive WhatsApp bot. They can simply reply with a keyword to get exactly what they need — it works in English and French:
| Reply with… | They get… |
|---|---|
| map (or carte ) | A location pin of your latest known position |
| start (or départ ) | A location pin of where the activity started |
| live (or 3d ) | A link to watch your activity in the 3D live player |
| stat (or détail ) | A link to your activity's statistics page |
| challenge | A link to the related challenge leaderboard (during events) |
| stop | Unsubscribe from updates for that specific activity |
| support | A link to contact SportsTrackLive support |
So a recipient can, at any moment during your activity, pull up your live 3D replay or your last-known location on a map — all from inside the WhatsApp conversation.
On the recipient's side: the first message
The first time a recipient receives a message from an official WhatsApp Business number — and has never interacted with that number before — WhatsApp does not deliver the message right away.
Instead, the app shows (in the background, or later) a consent screen along the lines of:
You're receiving messages from businesses on WhatsApp. To keep receiving messages from SportsTrackLive, please accept WhatsApp Business's Terms of Service.
Until the recipient taps Continue or Accept, messages sent from our servers stay blocked on their device: they won't appear, even though everything on your side shows they were sent successfully.
Working around it
If a recipient isn't receiving your alerts, forward them this link: https://wa.me/33448072401 and ask them to start the conversation with that number (for example by sending a quick message). Initiating the exchange themselves automatically accepts the terms of service, and subsequent messages will be delivered normally.
Setting it up on the website
WhatsApp alerts are managed in the WhatsApp Notification Center, in your account settings on sportstracklive.com.
- Open your settings and select the WhatsApp tab.
- Check the service status pill at the top of the page:
- 🟢 Operational — everything is working normally.
- 🟠 Degraded — messages may be delayed.
- 🔴 Down — delivery is temporarily unavailable; try again later.
- Add a recipient. Click Add a new recipient and fill in their:
- First name and last name
- Email address
- Phone number (with country code, in international format)
- Save. The number is validated, and the recipient appears in Your recipients.
- Enable or disable any recipient with its toggle. Only enabled recipients receive your alerts.
- Choose your repeat frequency under Repeat time:
- No repeat — one message at start, one at finish.
- Every 30 minutes — periodic updates while you're out.
- Every hour — periodic updates while you're out.
You can edit a recipient's email or phone, or delete them entirely, at any time. You can have up to 5 recipients in total.
Setting it up in the mobile app
The same Notifications Center is available in the iOS and Android apps, from your Profile:
- Open Profile → Notifications Center (WhatsApp Recipients).
- The screen shows the live service status indicator at the top.
- Tap Add a new recipient and enter their name, email and phone number (with a country selector).
- Toggle each recipient on/off, tap a recipient to edit, or swipe / tap delete to remove them.
- Set the repeat time (no repeat / every half hour / every hour) and save.
Settings sync across web, iOS and Android — manage recipients wherever is most convenient.
Good to know
- Recipients don't need the app or a SportsTrackLive account — they just need WhatsApp installed.
- A recipient can opt out of a single activity by replying stop; this only affects that activity, not future ones.
- Because of WhatsApp's rules, the bot communicates using approved message templates and links — your recipients always receive a clean, official message.
- Alerts depend on the WhatsApp service being Operational. If the status pill shows Down, recipient management and delivery are paused until it recovers.
